Additives enhance the performance of grease


Lubricating silicone grease is a lubricating oil system consisting mainly of two components: oil and thickener. From a technical point of view, the grease is a colloid, a "permanent suspension", the particles of the thickener are evenly distributed in the oil. The thickener of the thickener is moderately sized, neither decomposable nor precipitated, thus forming a A unique mesh matrix that keeps the oil in the desired position. However, the role of the thickener is not limited to these, a suitable thickener can thicken, or become too thin at high temperatures, or oxidize, leaving a gel residue, thereby affecting the performance and life of the product.


Additives can change the way grease works. Some additives change the properties of the grease through chemical reactions. They extend oil life, reduce gelation and oxidation, delay rust, increase wear resistance, inhibit adhesion, or increase grease adhesion to moving parts. Chemically active additives can alter the physical properties of the grease, such as water resistance viscosity, shear resistance, and temperature limitations. Adding colorants and UV stains to the grease helps with assembly and quality inspection. Sometimes, the use of additives can also reduce the cost of grease.


The thermal stability and lubricity of the oil act like an environmental seal to separate water, salt water, dirt and other contaminants from the moving parts.
